Abstract

Ayer and Lee1 isolated (−)-cyathin B2 (1) (Scheme 1) as a component of various congeners, from Cyathus earlei Lloyd, which is a tropical or subtropical species of bird’s nest fungus (family Nidulariaceae) found in Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Hawaii. It is a cyathane diterpenoid with a cyathane core as the common scaffold, which features a five–six–seven tricyclic ring system with a trans-[6–7] ring fusion and two all-carbon quaternary stereogenic centers at the ring junctions.
