Abstract

5-Pyrimidyl alkanol with an enantiomeric excess of up to 96% was formed using chiral epoxides as a chiral initiator in the enantioselective addition of diisopropylzinc to pyrimidine-5-carbaldehyde, in conjunction with asymmetric autocatalysis.
