Abstract

A multi-flash thermography approach was developed to enable thermographic inspection of highly reflective samples without the need for an emissivity-altering coating. The multi-flash thermography approach was able to reliably remove reflections and isolate the weld region of interest. Properly isolating the weld region of interest enables weld assessment for highly reflective metal welded joints, such as laser welds. Future work includes exploring various techniques to both identify the weld as well as analyze the weld quality via machine learning approaches.
