Abstract

Robotics and automation transform global industries and paved an impact on large economic sectors. Today's agriculture methodology needs improvement due to the pressure of global population growth, unpredictable climatic changes, and the impact of migration. However, the traditional agricultural methods are facing challenges to provide enough food supply for the growing population. There is an urgent need to incorporate computing technologies to automate traditional farming practices. So, this chapter is divided into four sections—(1) opportunities of robots in agriculture where we discuss the need for robots in the current scenario of increasing population and demand for labor to do the agricultural task; (2) advancement in agribots, which is focused on different types of agricultural robots in terms of sensing, mobility, path planning, and manipulation; (3) status and progress of robots in Indian agriculture, which concentrates on Indian-based robot start-up and case studies of using robots in harvesting crops; (4) challenges in the deployment of robots in the field.
