Abstract

This paper describes a laser technique to adjust the pitch static attitude (PSA) and the roll static attitude (RSA) of the head gimbal assembly (HGA). The static attitude is controlled by the orientation of the flexure. A laser beam is used to controllably bend the flexure arms and change the flexure orientation. The mechanism of bending the metal beam by using short laser pulses is described. PSA and RSA are measured by using a laser beam incident on the slider and reflected onto a position sensitive detector.
