Abstract
With the quick development of large-scale power electronic technology, more and more power electronic devices have been put into operation. However, the integration of large-scale power electronic devices makes the inertia and damping ratio of the power systems reduce, and has adverse impact on the safe and stable operation of the power systems. The virtual synchronous generator (VSG) technology can make the power electronic device emulate the inertia and damping feature of conventional synchronous generator (SG), which provides effective solution to address the issues of the power systems with large-scale power electronic devices. The basic principle of VSG is introduced in this paper, and the application prospective of VSG technology in integration of PV generators and wind power generators, power electronic transformer and flexible ac and dc transmission is discussed. Finally, the focuses of the future study of VSG technology are put forward.
