Abstract
Summary Different normal gravity fields are used in geodesy. Their choice used to be based on Earth gravity field and the stage of its research. The information on shape of Earth and its gravity field is related to different gravity fields. By using geodetic data of different epochs it is important to pay some attention to the difference of the normal fields. Increasing accuracy of the geodetic observations requires the improved analysis of the normal gravity fields. These questions are actual to the geodetic activities performed in Lithuania today. Geodetic activities were related to G. Cassinis normal field before WWII, and to F. R. Helmert normal field after WWII. Normal gravity field GRS 80 is used after the introduction of Lithuanian coordinate system in 1994. Earth normal gravity field choice possibilities are analysed in this publication.
