Abstract

The study aims to analyze the use of the Rural Environmental Registry (determined by the Forest Code n. 12,651, of May 25, 2012) as an effective instrument for sustainable development in rural areas and as an aid tool for those companies that follow environmental laws and that develop activities to protect the environment, also helping them to select rural producers who are within the environmental standards required for partnerships. We analyzed laws and studies by several authors on the Rural Environmental Registry, on the company and the environment, and on sustainable development. A search was also carried out on the SciELO website, for articles relevant to the theme of this study, from 2012 to 2018, using the keywords “Cadastro Ambiental Rural”, “Cota de Reserva Ambiental”, “Sustentabilidade Rural no Brasil” and “Georreferenciamento Rural no Brasil”. We found 27 studies related to them. And the search for data was carried out on government websites, serving as a basis for proving the tool feasibility considering what was proposed by the study. The study achieved its objective by proving that the Rural Environmental Registry is a tool that helps both rural producers and companies.
