Abstract
Women are much more vulnerable in our society. In India poor village women are deprived of not only minimum food, education and other basic amenities but also of dignity, respect and right. Women empowerment is much more debated issue now-a-days. In this paper this issue is addressed and we try to find out whether they can be empowered in participating Self Help Group in Bardhaman District of West Bengal by defining an Empowerment Index with the help of surveyed data.
