Employing Iraqi Military Elements In Contemporary Architecture

Abstract

This paper highlights the military fortifications, it is a serious attempt to study an important aspect of the military architecture in Iraq and the motives for its construction related to the political, military and economic conditions of the country. Thus, the research problem emerged, the lack of knowledge about the unique features of Islamic military architecture and how to employ them in contemporary architectural production. Therefore, the research aims to "identify and clarify the characteristics of military architecture and its distinctive characteristics and the process of employing them within the architectural product, and the research methodology included building a framework of knowledge that includes the most important vocabulary in clarifying its details. Architectural features and their role in the engineering of military buildings and then application, and the research assume the presence of features that are unique to military architecture. Islamic and these features are clear in contemporary architecture. The most important finding of the research is military architecture is nothing but an art that does not exhaust its aesthetic, functional and expressive powers, so it requires attention and preservation through studies concerned with its dimensions and expressive values of manifestations of originality, strength and uniqueness.
