Abstract
The empirical formulas for 14 MeV neutron induced (n,α) cross sections have been examined. Both of the formulas suggested by Levkovskii and by Gardner and Yu can be explained primarily by the statistical model, based upon the constant temperature level density formula. The effect of neglecting the spin term in this simplified model appears to be insignificant.
