Abstract
An empirical method has been developed to predict the fundamental natural period of a multistory, multibay frame. Average values of beam stiffness, column stiffness, story height, and mass per story are used to enter charts from which the natural period is determined. The results are more accurate than those obtained using other approximate techniques. The rational of the method is discussed and example calculations are presented.
