Abstract

Abstract Emotional conflicts have been identified as particularly damaging influences in family firms. Drawing on the organizational behavior and psychology literature, the article distuingishes different avenues of the escalation of conflict in family firms. Furthermore, conflicting influences (paradoxes) are considered and „hotspots“ of emotional conflict in family firms are highlighted. Based on the varying philosophies in family firms of the separation of family and business, practical implications of emotional conflicts in family firms are discussed. The paper concludes with areas for future research.
