Abstract

The objective of the study was to identify emotional intelligence level among basic school principals at Irbid governorate and its relationship with their leadership performance from teachers’ point of view. The population of the study included all basic school teachers at Irbid governorate. The instrument of the study was developed and included two sections: The first was (37) items to measure emotional intelligence level, while the second was (24) items to measure leadership performance. The instrument was administrated to a sample totaling (412) male and female teachers selected from basic schools at Irbid governorate. Validity and reliability of the instruments were obtained. The results of the study showed that emotional intelligence was moderate; and that leadership performance was also moderate. It was found that there was a positively significant statistical correlation between basic schools principals’ emotional intelligence level at Irbid governorate and their leadership performance from teachers’ point of view. In light of these results, the study recommended the necessity to spread the culture of issues related to emotional intelligence among school administrations, and to clarify its role in the success of individuals in leadership and professionally.
