Abstract

ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among emotional intelligence, two forms of emotional labor (i.e. surface acting and deep acting), and emotional exhaustion among Korean fitness employees. A total of 217 participants completed the questionnaires measuring their level of emotional intelligence, surface acting, deep acting, and emotional exhaustion. The results indicated that emotional intelligence had a positive impact on surface acting and a negative impact on deep acting. Furthermore, a negative link between surface acting and emotional exhaustion was found, whereas no significant link was displayed between deep acting and emotional exhaustion. The results also revealed that different types of emotional labor fitness employees utilize can impact various employee well-being outcomes.
