Abstract

Phenomena in space charge dominated beams are described by the locally cold beam model precisely enough. The model is applied to the effects of longitudinal and transverse inhomogeneities of space charge. It was validated that the phenomenon of emittance oscillation in these beams, which is used in well known technique emittance compensation, is the property of the model and does not depend explicitly on the properties of a beamline. A universal formula for emittance estimation of locally cold beams in beamlines is presented.
