Abstract

Cross sections have been measured for the emission of bands of the molecular hydrogen spectrum induced by the impact of protons on a molecular hydrogen target under single-collision conditions. Comparisons are made with the general predictions of the Bethe-Born theory. Cross sections for the emission of Balmer radiation produced by simultaneous dissociation and excitation of the target are also presented.
