Abstract
The objective of this investigation is to reduce the NOx, CO and HC emissions by using catalytic converter and exhaust gas recirculation. The EGR is to reduce the NOx emissions, and catalytic converter reduces the CO and HC emissions. The experimental study was carried out in a four-stroke single cylinder spark ignition engine. The experimental results show that appreciable reduction of NOx by 40% for every 2.5% EGR introduction, while CO and HC emission level increases to certain level. The combined effect of EGR and catalytic converter simultaneously reduce the CO, HC and NOx emissions. The emission parameters were analysed and compared with the pure gasoline operation
