Abstract

Convoy electrons emitted in collisions of 100\char21{}340-keV protons with a Si(111) surface at grazing incidence are investigated. The observed cusp shape in the electron spectra is significantly broadened in comparison to that observed in ion-atom and beam-foil interaction. We attribute this broadening to a deviation from the Coulombic final-state interaction near the surface due to the image potential.
