Abstract

It has been shown that complex molecules with conjugated ring systems, such as vitamin B 12. its analogs, and cobalt phthalocyanine, escape fragmentation during the Auger event following electron-capture decay of cobalt-57. Consequently, Mössbauer spectra are characteristic of the entire molecues. This opens up very interesting possibilities for the use of emission Mössbauer spectroscopy for biologically important molecues.
