Abstract

A fungus herein described as a new species in Emericellopsis van Beyma was isolated from soil collected near the margin of a saline (MgSO4) lake in southeastern Wyoming, U.S.A. E. stolkiae sp.nov. differs from E. minima Stolk, originally reported from coastal saline muds, in the character of its ascospores (average dimensions 6·6×3·7 μm, dark green, with attenuated wing-like appendages up to 10·0 μm long) and in conidium size and shape. Ascospore size along with wing size and morphology are adjudged to constitute a valid basis for specific distinction in the genus. A key to the eleven described taxa in Emericellopsis is appended.
