Abstract
The First International Conference on Foodborne Parasitic Zoonoses, 14–17 November 1990, at Chiang Mai University in Chiang Mai, Thailand, was organized by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education as their thirty-third seminar entitled Emerging Problems in Foodborne Parasitic Zoonosis: Impact on Agriculture and Human Health. It was attended by 120 representatives of 26 countries. The major objectives of the conference were to assess the current status of foodborne parasitic illness throughout the world, to describe current research activities in foodborne parasitic zoonoses, to discuss the impact of zoonotic and other foodborne parasitic illnesses on economics and industry, and to establish collaborative research efforts between conference attendees with similar interests. This article summarizes reports presented at the conference which relate specifically to seafood-borne parasitic zoonoses.
