Abstract

India and Iran being neighbours are having close relations and share economic and strategic interests. The last decade has witnessed a modest but steady rise in India’s engagement with Central Asia. The rekindling of this relationship is driven primarily by two concerns: securing and diversifying India’s energy security base, which brings it into severe competition with China, which presently commands a clear edge. Iran forms an important component in India’s engagements in Central Asia. In fact, Iran provides India a gateway to enter Central Asia. Both India and Iran are increasing their engagements in the region. The aim of the present paper is to study the India Iran cooperation in the Central Asian region.
