Abstract

This discussion paper provides a synthesis and a thematic literature review of five salient interdisciplinary works that advanced the academic discourse on Legislative Budget Offices (LBOs) in the calendar year 2016. When studied in concert, these works evidence the possibility of greater innovations in LBO conceptualization, while also attesting to the growth of an emergent interdisciplinary literature that centers specifically around the important role that LBOs can play in the budget process, particularly as these works stem from different literatures including macroeconomics, public administration, political science, economic history, and public finance.
