Abstract

Introduction ROUTINE PRACI'ICES FOR UNSCHEDULED landings are extremely important, since only 25 percent of all post-crash evacuations occur under circumstances which allow for preparation during an actual flight) Emergency egress scenarios can create a practiced, workab le plan that should increase the chances of air medical crew survival during unscheduled emergency landings. The plan can easily be incorporated into a recurrent safety training program, complete with established skill objectives and simulated egress exercises. The t raining p rogram includes routine preflight preparation for unscheduled landings, an emergency egress survey, extrication, and safe rendezvous selection. Routine preflight preparation can be divided into three categories: 1. daily mission-ready status, 2. routine immediate preflight preparation, and 3. in-flight duties during an identified emergency. Maintaining a daily mission-ready status is imperative, because emergencies often leave little time for discussion of safety procedures or for obtaining needed medical and survival equipment. 2
