Abstract

This paper covers critical operating problems that are common in many powersystems in the world, specially in developing countries. The experience obtained in the solution of dynamic problems, through emergency controls, in the Mexican Electric System is presented. Main characteristics of the power system and discrete supplementary controls implemented are described. The analysis of particular applications of discrete controls is included. The philosophy of the design and implementation of under-frequency load shedding schemes is presented. Recomendations are given for the implementation of similar schemes in longitudinal power systems. Results of simulations and recordings of disturbances are also included.
