Abstract

The emergence of the Asian Pacific area as a major economic centre has been briefly examined as a background to impact this will have on education and training of librarians. The implications of this for the education and training of librarians is explored: the work of international organizations, education for library and information science in schools and training courses in the area, and the joining together of Asian Pacific countries to solve their own library and information problems. Finally the work of IFLA is touched upon to stimulate consideration of the contribution that IFLA members can make
