Abstract

The development of Internet and communication technologies at present is providing an easier, safer, and more comfortable lifestyle, that is, by making everything in the daily life environment smart and connected to the Internet. The world is focusing more on a smart cities strategy which in return provides resources for insights into the future of smart development. Developed economies like Australia and Canada are paving their way to develop Internet of Things (IoT) based on Artificial Intelligence (AI). A smart home environment is the most popular example contributing to the development of smart cities. Smart Home Systems are based on IoT which plays an important role in making life environments connected and smarter. Every object in smart home environments such as lights, air-conditioners, windows and door systems, security cameras, coffee makers, and home appliances can be connected to the Internet through IoT. IoT allows monitoring, controlling, and automating all of these connected objects anytime and anywhere. The purpose of smart systems is to provide a high-quality living standard, safety, security, energy saving, and resources. This chapter presents the functions of smart home appliances and discusses various challenges and limitations based on different technical, social, and ethical views.
