Abstract

With the past couture collections lighting up more and more debates on its relevance in the industry. In today's fast fashion industry, led by the recession, a new fashion sector has emerged. The fashion industry has settled on a mid-ground of exclusive couture pieces and easily available ready-to-wear, all to meet market needs & consumer demand. Demi couture or the bespoke wear industry has seen to be rising rapidly by offering commercially reproducible garments using new technology that incorporate some of the artisanal techniques pioneered by haute couture, designers are providing unique items for their more sensitive customers. This paper presents investigative research in order to understand what is currently happening in the technology sector to enhance the Haute and demi-couture industry in terms of consumer demand, styles & manufacturing. While the more modernized form of couture is greatly developing, this paper also explores the phenomenon of the decline in the importance of the haute couture industry and analyses sector trends of the growing fashion industry.
