Abstract
A 34-year-old woman presented with acute left thigh and calf swelling, cyanosis, and pain, consistent with phlegmasia cerulea dolens. Duplex ultrasound demonstrated extensive left acute iliofemoral deep venous thrombosis. She was heparinized and taken urgently for interventional treatment. The right common femoral vein was accessed to place a prophylactic inferior vena cava (IVC) filter. The IVC venogram demonstrated laminated thrombus in the IVC causing a ∼50% reduction in lumen, extending to the renal veins.
