Abstract

This article reports on a method to embody 3D virtual objects by Personal Computer(PC) and its applications for the blind. We connected an inexpensive small mill-machine called 3D plotter with PC, and developed a 3D graphics program to make solid mazes tactile. The grade of complication, wall-height of maze and the point of view are able to be manipulated on the screen. Other 3D graphics software on the market was also applied to create some other original 3D virtual objects. We introduce the purpose and method of our system, and discuss the abilities, the limitations and the possibilities of its application in educational sites. We are expecting much of utilizing these tactile solid objects as teaching materials at educational sites for the blind in future.
