Abstract
This article is a reflection of the process undertaken to embed the concept of strengths-based perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s health and wellness into the pre-registration program for student midwives and nurses. In years past the subject has been taught from an exceedingly negative perspective. This was a desperate bid to encourage non-indigenous nurses and midwives to care. Following the example given by Boler in the Pedagogy of Discomfort1 it was an attempt to engage the empathy of student nurses and midwives.
