Abstract

Introduction and background In the UK, if an undergraduate student is to be awarded an honours degree, it is usually a requirement for them to carry out a significant piece of individual work. For business and management students at least, this requirement is typically satisfied by the student writing a project or dissertation – typically a long analytical essay that addresses an issue of the student’s own choice. This paper draws on examples from an undergraduate degree programme in management at a British business school where students are expected to work on their dissertations for most of their final year.
