Abstract
The objective of this article is to problematize the trajectory of Josue de Castro in research institutions focused on the field of food during the Estado Novo. The work of Josue de Castro in these institutions collaborated to publish one of his best known works, Geography of Hunger. In that historical moment Josue de Castro transcended the frontiers of the academic world, not only in his role as a technician of food institutions, but as a public man who, through his writings, sought to link the problem of hunger to the competence of the State.

RESUMO: O presente artigo tem como objetivo problematizar a trajetória de Josué de Castro em instituições de pesquisa voltadas para o campo da alimentação durante o Estado Novo. Naquele momento histórico Josué de Castro transcendeu as fronteiras do mundo acadêmico, não apenas na atuação como técnico de instituições alimentares, mas como homem público que, por meio dos seus escritos, buscou atrelar a problemática da fome à competência do Estado. O leitor terá contato com um processo dinâmico, no qual Josué de Castro transcende as fronteiras do mundo acadêmico – não apenas na atuação como técnico de instituições alimentares – mas como homem público que, por meio dos seus escritos, buscou atrelar a problemática da fome à competência do Estado. Concomitantemente às atividades acadêmicas e de divulgação científicas, favoreceram a formação da imagem de Josué de Castro como uma autoridade em relação ao campo de saber da nutrição no Brasil, colaborando para que se engajasse em projetos de Estado[16]. A política era eliminada, tudo se discutia como se tratasse de um assunto puramente técnico, a ser decidido por especialistas”[20]
