Abstract

It has been known for some time that a static, continuous beam experiment cannot distinguish between a pure superposition state and a mixture of states of parallel momentum in the incident beam. In this note we show how scattering from a time dependent system can be used to measure the auto-correlation function of the incident beam in a momentum representation, and hence make this distinction.
