Abstract

Chlorobutyl rubber (CIIR) forms an important class of synthetic rubber with fascinating properties enabling their utility in many engineering fields as well as biomedical applications. Normally the incorporation of organically modified nano clay enhances almost all the properties of the nanocomposites. The present study focuses on the difference in thermal behaviour exhibited by the organoclays like cloisite 10A, 15A and 20A.The difference in behaviour is attributed primarily due to the difference in the type of modifier, the modifier concentration and also the orientation of the entities of the filler in the polymer. Thermal degradation of the nanocomposites were done using Coats Redfern equation.
