Abstract

Microtubules (MTs) are dynamic structures polymerized from tubulin dimers. MTs undergo nonequilibrium behavior called dynamic instability, the stochastic interconversion between states of MT growth and shrinkage via cycles of GTP hydrolysis. Local concentrations of microtubule-binding proteins regulate MT growth and shrinkage to ensure proper cell development, structure, and function.
