Dionne Brand’s novel reorders conventions of narrative and diaspora to make visible the hidden elsewhere in representing the feminine, lesbian, queer in a story of love, loss, and migration. In the process, her work offers an alternative mode for writing about the African Diaspora and the experiences of Black migrant women of the Caribbean and Canada.
