Abstract
ABSTRACT: The Southern Methodist educational system in Texas was aimed at creating a group of Mexicans who would live and teach a Christian life. Elodia Guerra was educated in such an institution and became an evangelist appointed by the Mexican Border Conference in the years 1929 to 1933. In the usual way itinerant evangelists traveled the country, hired by preachers and congregations, she carried out evangelistic campaigns from the Dallas-Fort Worth area to the border. This was a period when Southern Methodism did not allow women preachers, at least with official appointments. Therefore, she began breaking the stained-glass ceiling in her church. This article describes her upbringing, her commitement to the preaching of Gospel, and her main achievements.
