Abstract
The article discusses a criterion for the existence of certain cyclic extensions of prime degree p of abelian extensions of imaginary quadratic fields. The condition in the criterion is given in terms of special values of L-functions with Grössencharacters. The method is based on the theory of elliptic units by Siegel, Ramachandra and Robert.
