Abstract

We give conditions for two elliptic or parabolic operators to have the same domain of definition in the space C, which are expressed very simply in terms of their coefficients and are both necessary and sufficient. Moreover, we show that, although two generic operators have different domains of definition, certain intermediate spaces between these domains and the whole space always coincide.
