Abstract

We explore the distribution of polarity items in antecedents of VP el- lipsis. We show that the data can be derived from (i) the assumption that parts of polarity items are not interpreted in situ (cf., e.g., Lahiri 1998) and (ii) the standard assumptions about parallelism in ellipsis licensing (e.g., Rooth 1992, Fox 2000).
