Abstract

Social movement has been closely related to American civil rights movement. However, participatory democracy has also been related to American civil rights movement as a part of the greater social movement in the twentieth century. Ella Baker, a veteran American civil rights leader has championed participatory democracy. She was not a political scientist but as an activist and thinker, she gave birth to the idea of participatory democracy as part of her struggle for the America civil rights movement.
