Abstract

After an introductory section about zinc in general and the role of Zn salts in the rayon industry, the possibilities of removing Zn from waste water are discussed. The solubility behaviour of Zn(OH) 2 is dealt with from a theoretical point of view, dependent on parameters such as crystal modification, temperature and ionic strength. The so-called fluidized layer system for eliminating Zn from waste water is discussed and the features of the system are mentioned. Sludge characterization by DSC measurements and X-ray diffraction are introduced.
