Ponte - Sep 2020 - Volume 76 - Issue 9 doi: 10.21506/j.ponte.2020.9.13 Abstract:The growing demand for adsorbents used in environmental protection processes has made their cost more and more expensive which prompted additional research for the manufacture of new less expensive adsorbent materials from materials which are not conventional. In this work we have prepared carbon-rich materials from natural residue that have been chemically activated by agent sodium hydroxide (NaOH). Activated carbon is used as an adsorbent for the purification of water charged with cationic dye (methyl orange). The adsorbents were characterized by infrared spectroscopy (IRTF) and micro-hardness measurement and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The physico-chemical properties that have been achieved (activation rate 18.64 (٪), ash rate 2.8 (٪), pyrolysis yield 45.43 (٪).the adsorption of methyl orange dye is maximum adsorption capacity of activated carbon 7.7160 mg / g and the equilibrium time 120 min.
