Abstract

Inhomogeneity of the radiofrequency field and finiteness of the pulse length introduce a systematic error in the determination of the spin-lattice relaxation time by the null method. A simple experimental method is described by which these errors can be eliminated. By varying the inhomogeneity of the radiofrequency field, the formulae derived according to a classical model are compared with experimental results. After correction for these systematic errors, the accuracy of the spin-lattice relaxation time measurements is about 2 %.
