Abstract

Experimental investigations, theoretical calculations and estimations have shown that the disappearence of the arc curvature of metal halide lamps at certain frequencies is caused by standing radial acoustic waves. The conditions of existence for a straight discharge are given through a relation between the radial acoustic resonance and the driving power frequency.
