Abstract

Abstract There are several promising methods of removing alteration products from thin sections of rocks. The reagents used are hydrochloric, sulfuric, and nitric acids, distilled water, and oxygenated hot water. Some methods result in decreased clarity, but others suggest that further refinements may yield excellent results. Particularly good results are obtained with ferruginous pigmentation subjected to hydrochloric acid.
