Abstract
Alternative biocides are being investigated for the Yuma Desalting Plant. Eleven biocides have been screened based on their compatibility with cellulose acetate reverse osmosis membranes and the efficacy of the biocides against the bacteria and fungi in the feedwater to the plant. Based on the results of the screening phases, three of the eleven biocides will be tested in further detail. These three are sodium bisulfite, Minncare, and sodium dichloroisocyanurate.
