Abstract

People with intellectual disabilities experience barriers regarding sexual health education. Nursing education insufficiently addresses the care of people with disabilities. Sexual health promotion is a teaching opportunity for nursing students. Nursing students aimed to improve sexual health literacy among people with intellectual disabilities through educational seminars. Gender-matched group education conducted for people with intellectual disabilities in their home setting enhanced sexual health literacy. People with intellectual disabilities are at risk for sexual abuse and may possess insufficient information compared to their peers without disabilities. Sexual health promotion education for people with intellectual disabilities should occur on a regular basis.
